Description

Nosferatu was seen in it's day as a shocking Horror film and today is widely recognized as a "must-see" cult classic. It is a German Expressionist film by F.W. Murnau, starring Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok. The film, shot in 1921 and released in 1922, was in essence an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula. The story is narrated from the diary of Johann Cavallius, historian of the city of Bremen, who is wondering if it was the Nosferatu who brought the plaque to Bremen in 1838. Count Orlok's move to Wisburg brings the plague traceable to his dealings with the Realtor Thomas Hutter, and the Count's obsession with Hutter's wife, Ellen, who is the only one with the power to end the evil. The "Book of the Vampires" tells Ellen what she must do to put an end to the vampire.
